Each cabin is a refurbished early 20th-century settler’s cabin. They were originally built during the early mining boom in what is today YohoNational Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The cabins were transported to CrossRiver in the early 1990s, and set among the tall Fir and Larch trees adjacent to a small subalpine meadow with views of the mountains across the KootenayValley. The refurbishments updated the cabins for environmentally-sustainable lighting and water, as well as modern maintenance and aesthetic standards, without compromising the original charm, warmth, and rustic ambience of their historic heritage. Each cabin contains a queen-sized bed; a twin-sized bed; a cozy-corner fireplace; wood pile; table and chairs; and a 3-piece bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower. Furthermore, each is individually and artisitcally decorated in its own wilderness and mountain theme. All lighting is solar-powered; water is heated by an environmentally-sustainable self-start heater; and the water line is a filtered aqueduct for natural gravity-fed pressure direct from the creek (take a virtual tour here).
