Example Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at CrossRiver Wilderness Centre by 5:00 p.m. After preliminary introductions, a hot evening meal will be served in the main lodge. After dinner, we will formally gather with the rest of the group for a brief river expedition outline and orientation before settling in to a relaxing night at the Wilderness Centre.

Day 2: After an early breakfast, we pack and finish our final preparations before heading out to the river (approximately a 1 minute drive). Here we will have an on-location safety talk, load the rafts, and begin our expedition. Depending on the time of year, the water levels will vary and rapids will range from Class 2 to Class 3+. Some memorable sections of river we will pass through are boulder rapids; horseshoe rapids; palliser rapids; and pedley falls rapids. We have also spotted a lot of wildlife along this section of river, on numerous occasions, including: black bears; moose; elk; cougars; eagles; hawks; deer; and wolves. The Kootenay is also a very historic river, which will make for some great stories along the way, or around the campfire at night. We will camp tonight about half-way down to our take-out point, on a hill overlooking the Kootenay River.

Day 3: After breakfast, we get back in the rafts and continue our rafting journey to our historic take-out point—talked about in the oral histories of the local Ktunaxa (Kootenay) people of the region for millennia. We’ll share some of these stories with you before meeting up with our shuttle. Depending on our timing as well, a stop at a natural hot springs pool on the way back may be a good cap to the expedition indeed. In any case, we aim to be back at CrossRiver for dinner. The evening is yours to relax at the Wilderness Centre, whether alone with a book, around the campfire, or in the outdoor wood-fired hot tub.

Day 4: After one final breakfast together, we part ways until next time.
